How to keep ACORNS from spoiling (Part of processing for FOOD!) I want to emphasize that you don’t *need* to have a dehydrator for drying acorns, but if you do have one they are quite helpful. The most important things are: 1. Spread them out into a single layer 2. Put them in an area with good air flow With that, you should have acorns that do not spoil on you. Acorn flour has a lovely malty taste. It’s a bit of a long process to make:👇 1. Put all acorns into a large bowl of water and remove any that float 2. Dry off acorns and remove shells 3. Put shelled acorns into water 4. Soak acorns in water over a period of a few days to remove the tannins. Change the water daily. 5. When the water stays clear and the acorns no longer have a bitter taste they are ready. 6. Dry off the acorns an cook on baking trays in the over at around (80-100°c for 2-3 hours

Good morning guys, This is how simple it is to germinate acorns. I leave them like this over winter not letting them dry out, then I would try and keep them covered with something also like a fine mesh to stop any birds digging them up over winter. Come spring I'll check and see which ones have germinated and will pot them up in their own individual pots. I've been doing it this way for years and works perfect for me. BTW check out the acorn collection this year, all these acorns have been picke

I did a test to analyze the effectiveness of this method with red oak acorns. I removed 37 acorns with visible weevils and 50 acorns with no visible problems and ran them each through the float test as separate groups. 2/37 of the weevil acorns sank (false negative), and 8/50 of the good acorns floated, but 5 of those were actually bad inside, though I couldn’t visually tell, so only 3 were false positives. Next, I ran a larger amount of unseparated acorns, 1000 to be exact (yes, I counted) thro
