For a while I have wanted to try rya stitches for rug making because you can create long piles. It’s a technique that originated from Scandinavia and was used to make bed covers, as an alternative to fur. It’s a technique that also looks similar to Turkey work. There is a special base cloth used but hard to find locally and pretty expensive to import. I used a linen cloth for rug hooking that I got from Dorr Mills - I think burlap could work too.
